Manuel García Morante pays tribute to the late Miguel Zanetti, the well-known pianist who accompanied Victoria de los Angeles on the piano.
It is with great sadness that I heard of the death of Miguel Zanetti. Miguel dedicated himself from the start of his career to be a pianist and accompanist, one of the most challenging of art forms, and he had an extraordinarily rich and varied career. He must surely be ranked as one of the all-time great accompanists, noted for his sensitivity, perception, and musicality, who accompanied many of the greatest singers of the age, and who achieved international recognition through his performances in many different concert halls, countries and festivals.
On a personal level, I met him while I was in Paris at the start of the sixties, and he always struck me as someone who was enormously discreet, cultured, a truly good person who, unlike many, never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was a humble person, in the best sense of the word, extremely intelligent, and also an excellent teacher. Music was the driving passion of his life, and he devoted himself to it, body and soul, throughout his life.
We are all greatly saddened by his death, but will remember him with great affection and admiration, while his wonderfully performed music will be a good example for young people.
Dear Miguel, we give thanks for your life! You will be remembered with love, and sorely missed!
