TWO NEW BOOKS ON VICTORIA DE LOS ÁNGELES

 

The autumn of 2008 witnessed two new books on  soprano Victoria de los Ángeles:” Cuando los Ángeles cantan “(WHEN ANGELS SING) by Octavio Aceves (Huerga Fierro Editores) and Victoria de los Ángeles. Nella música per vivere  (e sopravvivere) (Victoria de los Ángeles in music for living-and surviving) by Vincenzo Ramón Bisogni (Zecchini Editore).
Octavio Aceves was a personal friend of Victoria de los Ángeles and this  book, more than a  study in depth  of the singer’s voice and biography,  gives  us a hint of the soprano’s  human dimension , through the key moments of  her existence. The chapters in italics reflect the relationship between the author of the book and Victoria, with a sincere and respectful approach to the woman and a most devoted admiration for the artist.
The contribution  of Bisogni is, on the oher hand ,  an extense and updated  historical and artistic biography .  second number in the series "Grandi voci" (Great Voices)  from the publishing house Zecchini , proves to be a  well documented divulging work   that goes through  the lights but also the shadows of the  Catalan soprano’S liFe and artistic trajectory . One (almost) complete discography is appended to the book, which is a welcome addition  to the previous studies on Victoria de los Ángeles, among which should be included those of Llopis, Fernández Cid, Roberts, Radigales and Comellas.
