Malcolm Martineau, Irene Mas Salom, and Rita Morais sell out tickets for the LIFE Victoria 25/26 inaugural recital.

The LIFE Victoria series opened its season yesterday, September 30, with a recital featuring sopranos Irene Mas Salom and Rita Morais, accompanied by the prestigious pianist Malcolm Martineau, in a clear commitment to young talent trained at the Foundation, as both sopranos studied in the Victoria de los Ángeles Master’s Degree in Lied taught at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya.
The concert, held in the Sala Domènech i Montaner of the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, was a sold-out event.
Under the title Combat entre Fortuna i Virtut, the program was structured around Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, whose final duet, Pur ti miro, pur ti godo, symbolizes the tension between chance and morality in human history. Based on this idea, the musical journey traveled from the Baroque of Monteverdi, Purcell, and Lambert to the modern repertoire of Britten, Quilter, Barber, or Amy Beach, including French lied by Fauré, Duparc, Hahn, or Ravel.
The recital also recalled the joint debut of Mas Salom and Morais at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in 2023, where they respectively performed the roles of Fortune and Virtue in Monteverdi’s opera.
The evening opened with a performance by the LIFE New Artists, baritone Gabriel Mas Salom and pianist Marc Laliga, in a further demonstration of the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation’s commitment to the training and promotion of emerging talent.
