Barcelona, April 7, 2025. On Monday, June 2 at 7:30 PM, the Gran Teatre del Liceu will host a new edition of the Concert for Peace, promoted by the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation with the collaboration of the Liceu and in support of the Red Cross. This initiative, which began in 2022 in response to the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, now returns in support of peace, solidarity and understanding among peoples, reaffirming the musical world’s commitment to universal rights.
In view of the rise in armed conflicts and the number of people affected by war worldwide, from 2025 onwards the Concert for Peace will be held annually in Barcelona at the initiative of the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation as a symbol of unity through art and as a gesture of support for the humanitarian missions led by the Red Cross.
This edition will feature countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński as ambassador, adding his voice and artistic commitment to a cause that looks to music as an instrument of cohesion and understanding among peoples. The role of ambassador is being established for the first time this year and will change with each edition. Alongside him, national and international artists will perform entirely on a voluntary basis, such as soprano Ofelia Sala and mezzo-soprano Helen Charlston.
The Orchestra and Choir for Peace will be made up of volunteer musicians and singers from the country’s leading musical ensembles, such as the National Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC), the Symphony Orchestra and Chorus of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Orfeó Català and the Franz Schubert Filharmonia, among others. The concert’s musical direction will be led by renowned conductors such as Josep Pons, Jordi Savall, Antoni Ros-Marbà, Jordi Mora, Daniel Mestre, Maria Mauri and Pedro Pardo, among others.
The Concert for Peace is made possible thanks to the joint efforts of cultural institutions that collaborate selflessly, covering production costs, providing venues and contributing technical and human resources.
As in its first edition, all proceeds will be allocated to humanitarian causes led by the Red Cross, reaffirming the spirit of solidarity that gave rise to the concert in 2022 and that has since grown to become an act of solidarity and peaceful resistance.
